How the Eight Characters Form a BaZi Chart
BaZi means “Eight Characters.” Those eight characters are arranged in four pillars: Year, Month, Day, and Hour.
Each pillar contains two characters—a Heavenly Stem at the top and an Earthly Branch beneath it.

Why More Than One Yearly Guide May Apply
- Each Earthly Branch is associated with one of the 12 Chinese zodiac animals. Because every pillar contains an Earthly Branch, your BaZi chart may show as many as four animal signs.
- Some people have four different animals in their chart. Others have the same animal appearing in more than one pillar. A 2026 yearly guide can be used wherever its animal appears in your chart.
Example: If Rabbit appears in your Month Pillar and Dog appears in your Day Pillar, both the Rabbit and Dog yearly guides are relevant to your chart. If the same animal appears in more than one pillar, you only need to purchase that guide once.
